What we do and our projects

Literacy and numeracy

RefEd initiative’s literacy and numeracy program is a foundational education program that is tailored to help learners improve their comprehension abilities and get better educational outcomes. Through the Refugee Education Volunteers, students are mobilized and grouped from within their communities to acquire lessons using a combination of Play Learning, teaching at the right level and Using animated literacy videos to boost their comprehension levels.

In this program, students are assessed and grouped by the Refugee Education Volunteers in their communities. After grouping, the volunteers administer customized lessons that address the individual group needs to ensure that every student benefit.

This initiative is conducted in the villages where these students reside usually after the school hours. They are hosted in homes, compounds, village meeting places and under tree shades in the proximity of their homes.

What makes us different?

Education for all refugees

Out of School

Our out of school children program involves mobilizing community leaders, parents, guardians, religious institutions and development partners to support the already out of school children or those at risk of dropping out to re-enroll in the education system or keep in school.

RefEd addresses some of the factors that lead to school drop outs through intensive community mobilization and sensitization, providing basic scholastic materials, child protection initiatives and through our resilient student program. Through these initiatives, we ensure that we keep the children in school.

RefEd App

RefEd Initiative aims to take a lead in providing literacy and numeracy education digitally through our RefEd Mobile Application. As part of our literacy and numeracy initiatives, RefEd provides tailored, culturally relevant, and accessible education to students on the move. It allows students’ a chance to let their interests drive everything they do and are therefore constantly learning how to improve their pedagogy and our content.

Through our education content team, we create innovative, entertaining, and educative animated literacy and numeracy lessons using easy to understand voice overs. These are easy to understand lessons that are tailored to individual learners’ needs.
